Light-field camera Digital methods of image capture and display processing have enabled the new technology of “light field photography” also known as synthetic aperture photography. This process allows focusing at various depths of field to be selected after the photograph has been captured. These additional vector attributes can be captured optically through the use of microlenses at each pixel point within the 2-dimensional image sensor.
Every pixel of the final image is actually a selection from each sub-array located under each microlens, as identified by a post-image capture focus algorithm. Devices other than cameras can be used to record images. Trichome of Arabidopsis thaliana seen via scanning electron microscope. I have a ton of old books! Perhaps this is because we now have other things to do, like watch channels of cable television, surf the internet, discover the great outdoors or participate in any number of other diversions that attract our attention. Here are the three questions you should answer before contacting a book appraiser or rare book auction house.
Were your parents or grandparents who accumulated this library book collectors, or book readers? If your parents or grandparents were known collectors and have a listing of their library, chances are very good that they knew what information was important to document. With this information in hand, an antique book appraiser will have an excellent basis from which to ascertain current market value. This information will go a long way towards understanding the overall potential of the collection.

Comprehensive review of annually laminated varved lake sediments. Abstract Downcore counting of laminations in varved sediments offers a direct and incremental dating technique for high-resolution climatic and environmental archives with at least annual and sometimes even seasonal resolution. The pioneering definition of varves by De Geer had been restricted to rhythmically deposited proglacial clays.
Subsequent to deposition of topmost laminae, the physical preservation of the accumulating varved sequence requires the sustained absence of sediment mixing, for example via wave action or macrobenthic bioturbation. Various predominating climatic and depositional conditions may result in clastic, biogenic or endogenic incl. To reliably establish a varve chronology, the annual character of laminations needs to be determined and verified in a multidisciplinary fashion. Sources and influences of possible errors in varve chronologies are best determined and constrained by repeated varve counts, and by including radioisotopes and correlation with historically documented events.
A well-established varve chronology greatly enhances the scientific value of laminated limnic archives by securely anchoring the wealth of multi-proxy palaeoenvironmental information in the form of time-series for multidisciplinary investigations. Applications of varved records are discussed with special reference to advances since the s. These span fields like calibrating radiometric dating methods, reconstructing past changes of the Earth’s magnetic field or detecting fluctuations in solar forcing.
Once a varve chronology is established it can be applied to precisely date events like volcanic ash layers, earthquakes or human impact, as well as short- and long-term climate temperature, precipitation, wind, hydroclimatic conditions or flooding and environmental changes eutrophication, pollution. These records are necessary to extend temporally limited instrumental records back in time.

Members were told about future displays that the society will be involved in: If necessary Bridget can copy photographs but she does need information about the people involved names, dates etc. Our speaker for the evening was Susanah Farmer, who is a member of the society and is also Editor of Ag Lab. She hoped to encourage beginners to make a start and the more experienced to consider alternative lines of enquiry.
Susanah also said that she hoped to show that not everyone who does family history has to be an expert or even to have everything filed away tidily! She brought with her a large yellow archive box which held letters, photographs, certificates, invoices and other documents; she also had a file and a hard drive. She also said that she picks up her research at different points often sparked by some other enquiry. People start researching the family tree for a variety of reasons and the form that the research takes is equally varied: Susanah knew that her mother had started a family history by asking family members to write down information: Some family members are still unaware of the relationships and Susanah urged us to be aware that some information is very sensitive and it may never be possible to determine the truth.
As Susanah put it:
